The Velt role this week is a "founding" position. Interviewing for an early-stage startup isn't just about proving your skills; it's about showing you can help build a company from the ground up. It’s a two-way street where you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you.

Here’s how to approach it:

Demonstrate Scrappiness: Startups don't have established playbooks. Be ready to share a story about a time you solved a problem with limited resources, had to learn a new skill on the fly, or built a process from scratch. They're hiring for a problem-solver, not just a specialist.
Ask "Builder" Questions: Go beyond typical interview questions. Instead of asking, "What is the company culture?" ask, "What are the core values we will use to build the culture together?" This shows an ownership mindset and that you're thinking about your role in shaping the future.
Focus on the "Why": Early-stage founders are deeply connected to their mission. Show that you are, too. Ask them about their personal motivation for starting the company and what success looks like in five years. Connecting with their vision is just as important as fitting the job description.
